Thought I'd do a post on my current skin care routine since I have added some new products that I am excited about :)
Now, I had been using the SAME products for the past 7 years and have been very loyal to them... but over the past month, I have decided to add a few new products to the mix since I am a "thirty-something" (GASP) and figured it's about time I am proactive with my skin in terms of preventing wrinkles...
So you know the saying "less is more" ? Well... yeah... not in this case See picture below of all products currently being used!! lol
So, for comparison, here is what I had been using for the past 7 years....
From L to R : La Roche Posay Thermal Spring Water, HydraphaseUV SPF 30 ,Toleriane foaming wash, Toleriane Riche Cream, Vichy Purette Thermale Toner , Vichy Purete Thermal Eye makeup remover
As you can see.... I'm a big fan of La Roche Posay. I find it great for sensitive skin and if you look it up on Skin Deep, the "Toleriane" line is pretty low on the toxicityity level:) Even the "Purete Thermale" line from Vichy tests very well on the Skin Deep Database :)
Since I have been using the products above FOREVER... I can say that they do not irritate my skin (which can be sensitive) the eye makeup remover does not burn my eyes (many do) and the Sunscreen is by far the BEST I have every used and great for under makeup. These are my staples....and I can't imagine ever swapping these out for anything else.... HOWEVER that doesn't mean I cant ADD to my routine :)
So heading into "mid thirty" land... I thought I better start being a bit more proactive with my skin so I can look like J-Lo when I am 42 + ..... *Love*
I should mention, that knowing several people in the medical field... I have been told the same thing by them all: all you need is Retin-A and a good Moisturizer. So, although it may LOOK like I have a lot more going on, that is really the basis of my skin care. The extra products are for my eyes since you can't really use a retin-A on your delicate eye area :)
So, here are my Day Time Products:
I have only been using the Prevage stuff for about a month ( purchase inspired by Blushing Pixie), but I will say that it hasn't been irritating my eyes and my eyes feel so hydrated! I love that the eye cream has SPF in it, which is why it is my day time eye cream only. So far, two thumbs up! Note: Makeup goes on very nicely over both the serum and cream.
The Josie Maran Argan oil is total LOVE! It's so moisturizing and hasn't broken me out (knock on wood). Since it is a serum, it hydrates at a deeper level than a cream motorizer does ...I have noticed a big difference in my skin which can tend to be dehydrated most of the time.
.......and Night Time
From L to Right (new products only) YSL Temps Majeur Eye Cream, Retisole-A (Rentin-A prescription), Shiseido White Lucent spot targeting serum
The YSL eye cream was inspired by the MANY fantastic reviews on Makeup Alley (here) . So far I am really liking it. Super hydrating. I cant speak for how it works under makeup since I use it at night.... but I do love it. Note: I like thick eye creams :)
Sheseido White Lucent Serum. To be honest... I may as well have left this out. It's not that I hate it... but I havent noticed much of a difference and I feel like my Retin-A cream does a better job of evening out hyperpigmantation ... But I will use it until it's finished since it was a tad pricey ...
and the main one... Retin-A : I got a low grade prescription strenght (viva health care coverage!!) If you speak with dermatologists, many will say that all you need is Retin'A and a good Moisturizer. The main ingredient in many Anti Aging skin care lines is Rentin-A
The benefits are vast, but if you want to read more; take a look at this link. Warning: google before using... start very slow and moisturize like crazy! ( another reason I bought the Argan Oil)
I had been using Rentin-A in the past but stopped when I was pregnant. Even though I was told I could start again while nursing my little one, I decided not to until she was on milk. I have already noticed a big improvement in my skin. It is smooth and glowing... even the hubby noticed!
I hope this post helped some people .... :) Let me know if you want any extra info!!!
UPDATE: I noticed I may not have stressed HOW IMPORTANT it is to use a very strong sunscreen while using Rentin-A. Some people even prefer to use it only in the winter months, however i do not spend a lot of time in the sun and I always use a sunscreen. :)
Talk soon Everyone!!

Hi Mehreen! I have a lot of acne marks left over and my doc recommended Retin-A. Do you or did you have any marks on your skin before using Retin-A and did it help lighten them? I know this is kind of off topic from anti-age but just wondering..
ReplyDeleteHi Sana. Actually i remember in my early twenties I was prescribed Rentin-A for Hyperpigmentation caused by breakouts. It did help a lot. I still use it for hyperpigmentation!!!
DeleteSomething else that is very good for dark spots is any cream with the ingreadiant " Hydroquinone" in it. But again, you need strong stuff... not the stuff in band named creams. I used to use "Lustra" ( non-prescription but was behind the counter at a pharmacy" Hydroquinone is used specifically for lightnening dark spots. That worked very well for me too...but had to be used 2 times a day religiously!
Either i would assume would work... I guess ur Doc recommended Rentin-A for a reason so try it out... but go slow with it or your skin will go crazy! lol Hope this helped :)
Thanks a lot! I am using the Retin-A gel now and my skin peels here and there.. not too zomby-ish yet! But I am glad you mentioned Lustra.. I have heard about it before but totally forgot about it! Will look into it now :)
DeleteI noticed that you mentioned Argan oil as being a serum. But, it's not. It's an oil. Serums contain other ingredients.
ReplyDeleteoh yeah... I guess it is an Oil... actually what i love about it is that there are no other additives, so I'm glad it isn't classified as a 'serum':) So oil it is... guess the consistency reminds me of a serum ;)
DeleteI have been using La Roche Posay products for two months now and my skin feels great.I have used glycolic cream 15% to even out my skin tone and remove scarring, and it has worked wonders for me.Argan oil seems to be a great product, this will be my next purchase, but here in New Zealand we don't get josie maran so I will have to find another brand. If you any other brands of argan oil let us know.Waiting for more posts from you lady...
ReplyDeleteHey Jessica :) Yeah La Roche Posay is GREAT! I think any 100% argan oil would be fine... dont know any other brands per se..... i bed even at a health food/supply place you could find a purse argan oil. but if you are putting it on your face just make sure there isn't a bunch of other stuff in it:)
Deletewoww this was so informative : ) I have to try the La roche posay moisturizers :) I just have the face mist now...
ReplyDeleteIm reading about the Retin-A now. I want to start with Anti-aging now as I'm reaching 30 too :(
Hey Lady! Thanks for stopping by! Glad it was helpful :) YEah retin-A is really making a difference for me:)
DeleteWhat La Roche Posay products do you use? The pics are a little blurry. I have sensitive skin too. I've used some of them in the past but I had forgotten about them!
ReplyDeleteHi Lori, I use their Toleriane line. Under the picture i actually linked to a product page so you can read in detail about each product. I love La Roche Posay! :)

Help minimize fine lines — Smooth Argan Oil over skin and under your eyes for intense moisture and to reduce appearance of fine lines.
Help heal acne blemishes and scarring — With regular use, Argan Oil is widely reported to heal existing acne blemishes, prevent the occurrence of new breakouts and help reduce scarring.

Treat split ends — Rub oil between your hands and smooth through hair to minimize fly-aways and treat split ends.
Give skin a fresh, youthful look — Argan Oil easily absorbs into skin to give you a youthful, dewy glow.
And it's safe enough for use on your baby — 100% pure, organic Argan Oil is safe enough to use on your baby's delicate skin to help treat dryness and soothe redness. You can also smooth over your stomach during pregnancy to help prevent stretch mark

hi mehreen,
ReplyDeletecan u please tell me how to use retina a cream.
Thanks,
hi Nidhi! well first i just want to mention that i'm not a doctor:) so my info if from the advice of my doctor and from my personal exp.
Deleteto start. get a very low grade prescription. mine is 0.025 but there is one even lower if you have very senstive skin.
I would use it only one a week or once every 3 days. Use at night. a pea sized amount. clean your face. then apply rentin-a all over. then you MUST moiturize very well after. Rentin-a can be drying. i would use like this for a few weeks. then start using it every other day
IMPORTANT TO USE SUNSCREEN AND AVOID EXCESSIVE SUN EXPOSURE> some people prefer to wait until winter to use it. hope this helped
hi mehreen,
Deletethanks a lot..
hi mehreen,
ReplyDeletedid retinol A make yur skin sun sensitive ?
Hi! when you are using Retin-A it is ver very important to use a string sunscreen and try not to be in the sun too much. Some people like to use rentin-a in the winter only, however i am not out too much so it is fine for me.
Deletei haven't noticed any issues with the sun:)
HI MEHREEN.
ReplyDeleteYOU HAVE MENTIONED THAT YOU USED RETIN-A IN THE PAST BEFORE PREGNANCY.. SO I HAVE THREE QUESTIONS FOR U
1. WHAT STRENGTH OF RETIN - A DID U USE EARLIER?
2. HOW MANY YEARS HAVE U BEEN USING RETIN - A BEFOREE PREGNANCY. I MEAN TOTAL NUMBER OF YEARS BEFORE)
3. THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION ---- BEFORE HOW LONG DID U ACTUALLY STOP USING RETIN -A BEFORE PLANNING A BABY?
HASINI
Hi Hasini
DeleteI'll try to answer as best i can... but always consult with a doctor if you have any concers :)
1. I used 0.025, I've never gone higher than that yet
2. PRobably about 1.5 years (not too long)
3. AS soon as my hubby and i decided we wanted a baby i stopped. I was pregnant probably 2 months after that. I think they generally say 3 months. But the strenght of Vit A in my retina was minimal and only a little gets absorbed into the blod stream so i wasnt too worried, but for peace of mind 3 months. ( unless you are on a very strong oral vit A course then i'm sure it would be a lot sooner)
hope this helpedP:)
hey Mehreen ! you answered all my question ty. u cleared all my doubts :). i have been using retin- a 0.05 for almost 2 years now (though not continously) to mainly keep my breakouts under control.:( i still breakout and iam in my mid 20's!! . so i guess if it is 3 months for 0.025% it wud be wise to stop retin-a 6 months before planning a baby for 0.05%.that was somethin i was always concerned about.. you know how we always keep hearing scary stuff about retin-a/oral vitamin a and pregnancy n baby and all that stuff.
Deletehasini :)
and one more thing i totally forgot to mention u really dont look like you are in your 30's. you look like u r in your ealry 20's:). could you do a post on how to prevent stretchmarks and the stuff u used during your prenancy to avoid them.ty
Deletehasini
